Growing up with a deep connectedness to church and her faith, Amy released her first album in 1977, before she fifty-fifty turned 18. "I just dear the togetherness. I'm not going to quote it exactly, but I've watched the Christmas movie, "The Family Stone" many times. And I know there's i scene toward the end of the flick and information technology's something like, 'so what's then special about your family?' And they say, 'well, it's non any more special than anybody else's family'southward. It's but ours. It's just our family.' And honestly, my family was not loud and raucous. I mean, I'thou pretty quiet and I think my sisters would phone call me the wild one. All things are relative, only I just dear the gathering. That was really it."

On Church Growing Up

"I was born into a family that went to church Sunday morn, Sun night, Midweek night. And my primeval memories of church-going were a feeling of simply incredible security. I loved the music. I loved the feeling of my paw in my mom's manus. I loved the sound of my father'south vox singing. I loved my mom'due south vocalisation. I mean, to me, a church was actually all about a feeling of security because we returned to information technology and then oftentimes."

On the Cooks in the Family unit

"What we used to say most my mother's cooking is that she was a good cook. But we would say, if she's created something you love, savour it to the fullest. You're never going to have that exact same dish again because she would always kind of go, you know, off map... And I would likewise have to say that my male parent's mother had legendary yeast rolls."

On the 30th Ceremony of Heart in Motion

"I hear it from people my own age, 'that was what we danced to, my kids and me.' And you know what? That was happening in my home, too. That's why I made that tape, because I had young children. I was pregnant with my second during the writing of a lot of it. And then she was built-in. I toured when she was one. And by then, my son was 3. But to me, it's simply filled with youthful free energy and innocence and how faith helped navigate that journeying – and information technology'due south all on that record."

On Her Christmas Evidence Returning This Year

"I just love the tradition standing. You know, we've washed those shows near years since 1993. And in that time, generations have passed on and been born and so many families come–and it'due south grandparents, parents, children–and only to lookout man that shift over all these years. It's almost 30 years. Vince and I merely sort of created the gathering. But, we've had a lot of special guests over the years. And mostly people just want a cute setting to be together and to enjoy the familiar songs. And they want to express mirth and they desire to be moved and they want to exist reminded and desire to feel hopeful. That's a fun fourth dimension of yr for u.s.."
